Rotary International is an organization of service clubs - Rotary Clubs - located all over the world. It is a secular organization open to all persons regardless of race, color, creed or political preference. There are more than 32,000 clubs and over 1.2 million members world-wide.
The stated purpose of the organization is to bring together business and professional leaders to provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and to help build goodwill and peace in the world. Members usually meet weekly, which is a social event as well as an opportunity to organize work on the clubs service goals.
Rotary's best-known motto is "Service above Self", and its secondary motto is "They profit most who serve best"
Our local Breede River Winelands Rotary Club, was chartered in August 2005 and represents all 5 towns in our municipal region. The club is truly reflective of the new South Africa, with all races, genders and age groups well represented.

AIMS & VISION
The Breede River Winelands Rotary club embraces the principles of Rotary International and has adopted projects at all levels of our community where a need has been established, for instance: Food Security projects; the Hospice; creating an awareness of AIDS/HIV in our region; educational matters such as Literacy for All, REAP, Wordworks - assisting to create education opportunities for learners in outlying/rural areas, many of whom are in the disadvantaged communities.
We also promote the value and importance of collaborating with other role players and service organisations in the community - eg. Community Campaigns such as 'Rethink the Bag' and various Skills Development activities.
In everything Rotary does, it promotes its own Code of Ethics through its well-known "4-way Test" :
Of the things we think, say or do:
- Is it the truth ?
- Is it fair to all concerned ?
- Will it build goodwill and better friendships ?
- Will it be beneficial to all concerned ?
