Montagu Crisis Management

The aim of the Montagu Crisis Management Team (MCMT) is to assist and support authorities in the development of a co-ordinated plan to help all Montagu residents who need assistance and to support authorities in the implementation of their Disaster Management Plan. In an effort to minimise the impact of a disaster on all residents, we assist authorities in maintaining the safety and health of each Montagu resident.

On 12 February 2020, the Montagu Volunteer Fire & Rescue Association (MVFRA) was established to contribute towards the safety, well-being and development of the community of Montagu and environs, by reducing injury, loss of lives, property and the environment, due to wildfires, floods, civil disturbance and other natural or man-made disasters.

The MVFRA’s vision is not only to create a community operated support service to assist the greater public of Montagu and surrounding areas in time of need, but also to educate the community on fire prevention and incidents.

The MVFRA may be called to assist and support any other authority, voluntary organisation or community by offering expertise, experience and availability of resources, wherever and whenever possible.

Apart from supporting the local District Municipalities Fire Fighting Divisions in preventing and combating fires in Montagu and surrounding area, the MVFRA also works together with the Department of Health, the South African Police Services, Community Policing Forums, Emergency Medical Services, Local Law Enforcement, Security Companies, schools, religious, and other social and welfare organisations.

Following the declaration of a National Disaster announced by the State President on 15 March, the MFVRA, together with key volunteer stakeholders and concerned community members, created the Montagu Crisis Management Team (MCMT).
