Aleyna was born on 15 October 2011 at 25 weeks, medically anything under 28 weeks is seen as a miscarriage, she weighed 720g and was 32cm long.
She was born at Worcester MediClinic and directly after birth placed in a jiffy bag to keep her warm and moist. She stayed here for 4 days after which she was flown by ER24 helicopter to Blouberg Netcare where she got specialist care from Drs Ricki Dippenaar and L van Wyk - both Neonatologists.
While there I was unable to hold her for the first month as her skin was so delicate and sensitive to touch - I could however 'cup' her, this is where you hold the baby with your one hand on the bottom and one on the head and gently apply pressure - this gives a womb like feeling, if I was not at the hospital to cup her, they would put soft gel bags on her head and bottom.
We came back to Worcester MediClinic 7 weeks after her stay at Blouberg and stayed in Worcester for another 7 weeks. We only returned to Montagu on 01 Feb 2012.
Aleyna is the clinic's youngest surviving baby, and surely sets the record for the youngest baby in Montagu - Truly Montagu's Miracle Baby.
She is doing very well at home - weighed her today... 3.5kg!!
