Mikela Sinovich is still on a high after attending a World Championship Rock Climbing Competition held in New Caledonia.
The competition was stiff, the standard very high and this was only the second time that South Africa went out as a Protea team to a world championship such as this one they attended.
It is a fairly new sport for us and we as a country have got quite a way to go to catch up to the required level of climbing. Mikela says that she learnt a lot from this experience and is now much more aware of the standard that is required. The size of the wall was breathtaking and what she needs to do to improve, is now something to aim for!
Mikela came 29th overall.
She would like to thank everyone who made this incredible adventure possible through both their financial as well as moral support.
The SA team made an impression wherever they went - they showed team spirit and sportsmanship and the people as well as commentators in New Caledonia commented on the always-smiling South Africans every time they came on stage to climb.
At the end of the day it is not always about winning but enjoying the sport. The South African team were true ambassadors for South Africa in NC and at the end of the day, that is the responsibility you have when wearing a Protea blazer.
