Good news! Another year’s grace granted to Langeberg Foods
Tiger Brands announced today that another year will be extended to Langeberg Foods in Ashton.
Not only the 4 500 seasonal workers, but also 12 500 farm workers, will be able to enjoy another year’s employment and 300 farmers will be able to deliver their fruit produce to the factory.
Jacques Jordaan, the CEO of the Canning Fruit Producer’s association, when asked about the result, was overjoyed: “We are given another year to try and find a workable solution for all concerned.” He added, “We can breathe a sigh of relief again, we cannot take our foot off the pedal yet, this gives possible candidates the chance to do their due diligence and come up with strategic plans.”
An agreement has been reached with the worker’s union on reduced salaries and the farmers have agreed to accept less for their produce, and so keep the factory doors open.
This is a result of all-round efforts by business, labour, politicians and the farmers. It is wonderful news and cause for celebration. I can’t help feeling God has been gracious and made a way where there seemed to be no way!
