1. Enjoy the various hikes in the amazing mountains around Montagu. There is something for
everyone: from a short “Lovers Walk” Free and Badskloof route R 52 pp for adults and R 35 pp
for under 18s. There are also more challenging hikes, such as Bloupunt & Cogmanskloof. Please
visit the Montagu Tourism Office for more information and a copy of your own hiking map.

2. Visit the “Ibis Tree” and spend some time watching and photographing the birds from the special
deck at the Leidam. Free.
3. Visit the Montagu Village Market in Euvrard Park every Saturday from 08h00 until 13h00. Entrance
is free - just bring your shopping bag and some money to spend. You will be surprised how much
fresh and delicious produce you can buy for only R 100 or less.
4. Visit Guano Caves. For a day visit to the Animal Farm and Bunny Farm, adults pay R 70 and children
under 12 years R 50. Horse/Pony rides R 70.
5. Take a Capedry tractor trip among the fruit orchards at La Providence Dried Fruit Farm. Every
Saturday from 11h00 to 12h00. First come, first served. Free.
6. Browse the Montagu Bookshop in the The Quarter c/o Kohler & Long Street, while chatting to
booklover owner, Anne Reed. Large selection of classic second-hand and some new books.
Entrance free.
7. Enjoy the latest solo artist exhibition at the Montagu Country
Hotel, which features wonderful local artists and changes every
two months. Free.
8. Enjoy the latest artisan and lifestyle shops at The Quarter c/o
Kohler & Long Street.
9. Visit the Montagu Museum and Joubert House for a day of history
and heritage, and learn about the local plants and herbs which are
all utilised to treat every possible ailment. Entrance fee of only
R 5 per child and R 15 per adult includes a visit to both buildings.
10. Visit the amazing collection of Ferrari model cars at Squirrel’s
Corner. A collection of more than 2 000 model Ferrari cars and
other memorabilia is displayed in cabinets. Limited edition prints
depict racing over the years. Admission fee: R 50 pp, children
under 12 years R 25 pp.
11. Visit the beautiful Montagu Nature Garden. Only drop a donation
in the honesty box at the entrance.

12. Bring the family and enjoy a fun-filled day soaking up the best of Montagu in the natural hot
spring pools at Avalon Springs. Open for day visitors from 08:00 – 20:00 daily.
13. Kids at Avalon Springs can enjoy the water slide and an array of activities like soccer, volleyball
and chess while the grownups braai in the designated picnic areas, get pampered at the spa or
relax at Dassie’s Poolside Bistro.
14. Plan ahead and order your picnic and braai baskets or grab a snack on the go at their café. The
Cogman’s Restaurant offers a delicious menu for you and the kids to select from.

29. The new Olijvenhof experience includes some amazing platters, delectable dishes on the menu

30. Look out for the latest programme of weekend entertainment at Karoo Saloon to enjoy a peaceful,

31. Barrydale. There’s always something happening at The Karoo Art Hotel in Barrydale. Even if you
just stop to take a walk through this interestingly revamped hotel with a special vibe. Check out

32. Barrydale. On Route 62, visiting Die Langhuis, built in about 1865, is a must! It is one of the oldest
village houses still in existence. It provides a welcome stopover for travellers and a shop you
never will forget.

64. Enjoy a memorable wine tasting while
enjoying the spectacular views at BluVines
in Long Street, the House of Mimosa Wines.
65. Visit the Fijn Botanicals shop at Kogman & Keisie. All products are made on the farm, with locallysourced
natural and plant-based ingredients.
66. Enjoy some “sweet smelling” shopping at Fynbos@58 Bath Street. Fresh flowers every week, and
amazing gifts and special spoils. Enjoy the ambience and chat to friendly and appropriately named

67. Get up close and personal with artist Jurie Wessels at THE Gallery that specialises in carefully
curated collectible contemporary artworks. 21 Bath Street. Entrance free.
68. In the heart of town at 38 Bath Street, stop at Leon’s Country Kitchen for a home-cooked Sunday
lunch. R 80 lady’s portion or R 100 men’s portion.
69. Meet pastry chef, baker and chocolatier Alfred Henry at The Pastry Place to see a food artist at
work. Be sure to taste, if not everything that’s on display, then at least one of the day’s creative
culinary offerings. The Quarter, 43 Long Street.
70. No summer’s day is complete without a taste of Alfred’s artisan ice cream.
71. Love markets? Add the Karoo Daisy to your list. There’s a lovely market on the grass every
Saturday – and what better way to end your visit, than with their famous square pizzas.
72. Book a Wine Valley Safari to enjoy “drinking without driving”. Not quite a R 100 activity, but you
get so much more for the extra fee: you can see much more, taste much more, and drink much
more at an affordable price.
73. Visit Montagu Local, a lovely little local shop run by two wonderful wacky women; they stock a
wide selection of local artisan products and fresh organic fruit and vegetables. 21 Bath Street.

74. Montagu Local offers Montagu Cheese tastings, when you can meet the cheese maker and try up
to 5 different cheeses and butter. Bookings from 2 to 20 people. R 50 per person. Or spend R 150

75. While at Montagu Local, do make a note of the food baskets on order. Choose between a Breakfast
Basket, Braai Box, Snack Platter or Seafood Platter – all filled with a selection of fresh organic
local produce.
76. Treat yourself to lunch at Greenlands Farm Table on the R60, and meet Glen and Sara, the
passionate couple behind this creative lifestyle space filled with many treasures from their travels.

77. While you’re there, don’t forget to pop in at the Greenlands Heritage Shed, the new home for the
Langeberg Veteran Tractor Club.
78. Do an authentic Karoo gravel bike ride on the new Karoo Gavel Corridor. Grab the map at the
Tourism office.
79. The Protea Farm tractor trip to the top of the Langeberg is one of Montagu’s oldest attractions,
and remains immensely popular for the spectacular views from the top of the mountain. Book
your trip at the Activity Centre, 27 Bath Street, and then sit back and enjoy the ride. R 190 pp.
80. Complete the Protea Farm tractor trip experience with a potjiekos lunch under the trees. Real
food always tastes better when cooked on an open fire, out in nature and among friends. R 190 pp.
81. Montagu is one of SA’s rock climbing meccas. Hire a guide or do a self-guided climb along the
many routes available.
82. Unplug far, far away at the end of the road at a down-to-earth destination like Simonskloof
Mountain Retreat. Walk, breathe the fresh mountain air, and appreciate nature in its undiluted
majesty.
83. Wildebraam Berry Estate, Swellendam – just up the road on the R 60 from Montagu – is
the best place for berry picking. “Pick Your Own” Blackberry picking Mid Nov end Dec.
Entry fee +/- R 20 pp. They weigh the volume of berries you’ve picked, and you pay for that.

84. Visit Pietersfontein. When you reach the big white house with the waterwheel, you know you have
reached Groenlandfarm. Head for the Barn, with the petite bar and cosy fireplace, the perfect spot
to enjoy many Sundays with friends over some home-cooked food and a drink or two.
85. Enjoy an unforgettable “Captivated by Cap Classique” experience at Weltevrede Wine Estate; or
spoil yourself with a “Captivated by Chardonnay” underground cellar tour – or just do both.

94. For a lovely view of Montagu and the Langeberg Mountains, walk north up Kohler Street until
you get to a short stretch of gravel road, then continue to the top where you can enjoy the

want to take the perfect photo with Cape Fold Mountains in the background, or read more about
the history of the Kloof on the new explanatory plaques, or take a walk up to the Old English Fort.

tourism office about some amazing Love of Wine packages that will appeal to all the senses.
103. Did you know that there is another tennis court, if the one in Church Street is fully occupied? This

104. If you have not joined the once-a-month Sunset Fun run, walk or cycle on the beautiful Montagu
