Balie had a distinguished rugby career, he humbly says, “I was part of the World Cup Rugby team in 1995 that won the trophy, but I do not like too much focus on rugby.”
He represented the Springboks in 16 tests at tight head. He represented WP and the Lions over a period of 12 years.
He pursued his rugby career as a coach, with the Lions. In 2007, he was the scrumming coach for the Springboks at the Rugby World Cup, which they won.
At the age of 30, Balie committed his life to the Lord.
He is blessed to be a blue berry farmer for Saratoga Berries in the Robertson district.
He is married to Olivia, they have two daughters, Kiara and Miandi.
