Ernst was born in Worcester in 1964. He attended Worcester Drostdy Technical High School. Thereafter he went to Cape Tech where he completed a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Ernst married Herculine in 1989. They have five children and six grandchildren.
They are passionate about Israel and the Jewish people, they have just returned from Israel after leading a team of pilgrims.
