BIO:
Folk-rock singer-songwriter Reets (Gauteng) writes self-reflective lyrics and pairs them with emotive verve and colourful vocal interplay to simultaneously shock and soothe listeners into goosebumps. Her presence is honest, her style quirky, her mind open and her girt as real as her passion.
Her admiration for blues and jazz is evident in her timbre; weaving growls and belts into soft melody lines. This self-taught guitarist also isn’t afraid to challenge herself with different finger-picking styles, genres, tunings and time-signatures. Audiences have compared her to everyone from Sharon Van Etten to Nora Jones, Janis Joplin to Fiona Apple.
In January 2022, she opened for Fokofpolisiekar, The Tazers, Ruff Majik et al. at Park Acoustics. In 2021, she went into studio with the talented producer/engineer, Jaco Naude. The second single from this session, “Disbelief”, was released on 4 March 2022.
From 2014 to 2018 she performed all over Asia. During her time as a gypsy she gained invaluable experience, a surplus of inspiration and plentiful opportunities to learn from a gamut of international musicians.
She also enjoys learning new covers to share on her YouTube channel and with vibey crowds - featuring some Afrikaans classics and songs by muses such as Tash Sultana, Jimi Hendrix, Aldous Harding, to name a few.
