Alternative Firing Workshop - Paper Kiln
26 Grewe St, McGregor, 6708, South Africa
Build, pack and fire a papier-mâché pottery oven, beginners welcome!
In this low temperature firing we will wrap our pots in steel wool, sawdust, straw, salt, oxides and all sorts of other things in order to create unique and interesting effects and colours on our pottery.
We will then build our Papier-mâché kiln (pottery oven) with newspaper, magazines and slip (liquid clay) light it from underneath and watch it puff and fume like a volcano, once lit workshoppers may stay as long or short as they like to watch it burn.
The kiln will then be left over night to cool and we will unpack together in the morning on Sunday.
**If you do not have your own work to put in the kiln there will be items available for purchase on the day starting at R100. If you would like to make something for the firing please contact me for specifications.
Cost R400, snacks provided, bring your own drinks. Contact Alila on firstname.lastname@example.org
