Time: Commences at 8:30 and ends at 9:30
Venue: Montagu Bowling Club – Church Street (hospital side)
Speaker: Helmut Mayer
Title: “The Lord’s my Shepherd”
Helmut Mayer was born in Namibia on the mission station. His dad was a pioneer missionary for the Rhenish Mission Society. He was one of six children. From the age of six to matric they made their way by train to Hermannsburg, near Greytown, in Kwazulu Natal for their schooling.
After school, Helmut made his way to Germany to study engineering. Thereafter he worked in South Africa, Europe and made frequent trips to the USSR. It was while he lived in Vienna, Austria, that he met Hanna, who quickly became the love of his life.
In 1994 he persuaded Hanna it was time for a change of life and move back to South Africa. They decided to buy a farm just outside Montagu, where he started learning about fruit farming, planting orchards for export fruit and he has not looked back.
At his confirmation, his dad gave him a key verse from Isaiah 43:1. “But now the Lord who created you, O Israel, says: ”Do not be afraid, I have ransomed you; I have called you by your name; you are mine.” This was to become his life verse that he often refers to and has spurred him on.
Please join us and enjoy fellowship over a cup of coffee and an egg and bacon roll.
