Montagu Boekefees 2022
Ja, daar is weer ’n uitgawe van die Montagu Boekefees!
Van 26 tot 28 Augustus gaan die historiese KWV gebou, met die pragtige gerestoureerde fasades in Lang- en Kohlerstraat, gevul wees met boeke en boekliefhebbers. Die program van sprekers en gesprekke sluit bekende en minder bekende skrywers en ander skeppende kunstenaars in.
Dr Diana Ferrus, celebrated writer, poet, and activist, will start the festivities on Friday morning, 26 August, by facilitating a relaxed poetry workshop to encourage new poets to write about who lives in their heads and hearts.
The official opening of the Festival on Friday evening will take the form of a panel discussion about the past and present roles of artists in the South African context. Dr Diana Ferrus will be joined on the panel by Dr Willie Bester, born Montaguer and internationally renowned sculptor and painter, Kirby van der Merwe, writer and visual artist, and Montagu’s own Jannie Hanepoot, musician extraordinaire.
The hour-long speaker sessions on Saturday will include a talk on the pleasures and pitfalls of literary translation by Michiel Heyns, celebrated novelist and translator, and the Montagu launch of local rock-climbing guru Tony Lourens’ guide to sport and trad climbing, Montagu Rock. Local is baie lekker!
Francine Beaton, self-published romance author with 17 books under her belt and 8 waiting to be published, will inform us of the ins and outs of writing about love ever after.
Kookboekuitgewer Annake Müller kom praat oor die uitdagings wat onafhanklike uitgewers moet oorkom, en McGregor se Hester van der Walt gaan praat oor haar meel-en-sout-en-water-en-gis boek, Hester se Brood. Kosentoesiaste: genot en geluk gewaarborg in hierdie aanbiedings!
Kirby van der Merwe en Audrey Jantjies van Swellendam gaan mekaar ondervra en ondersteun oor “Die Naelstring van die Verlede”, wanneer hulle saam praat oor hoe die karakters in hulle onderskeie boeke deur die verlede verbind word.
Penguin Random House publishers will feature two of the authors in their stable.
Erla-Marie Diedericks will talk about her full-blooded psychological thriller, Die Bewonderaar, which has been described as a ‘stripped’ and ‘grotesque’ narrative about a sadistic stalker. Nerve-racking stuff!
Ilse Verster, debuutskrywer van So Lyk ’n Vrou, kom gesels oor hierdie ontstellende en insiggewende boek en die noodsaak dat mishandelde vroue die swye moet verbreek om te kan floreer na ’n verhouding met ’n narsis.
