On Sunday 27th at 4pm we have Brahms’s EIN DEUTSCHES REQUIEM (1h20mins)
Johannes Brahms’s Ein Deutsches Requiem is the composers largest-scale work; its seven movements consist of freely chosen German Lutheran Biblical texts, while the music and the voices are scored in a most masterly and deft manner. Christian Thielemann, noted for crafting superb performances of the major works of the Austro-German Romantic repertoire, leads the Müncher Philharmoniker, the Chor des Bayerischen Rundfunks, and soloists Christine Schäfer and Christian Gerhaher in this 2007 performance from Munich.
‘’ it's a performance of great warmth, dignity and impressive power. Much of the visual interest is provided by the batonless Christian Thielemann, using his eyes and large, eloquent hands, almost literally shaping the music into a truly impressive edifice...[His] tempos are stately but never drag...and he has infused his performers with passion.
5 out of 5 stars’’ BBC Music
‘’ On Blu-ray. It’s hard to find any better reading of the work than by Christian Thielemann. Recorded at Münchner Philharmonie, Gasteig Kulturzentrum 2007, I am amazed by the excellent sound, demonstration quality indeed! Also the lighting is remarkably tasteful, far away from the a bit dull lightning we see in so many concerts.
Great singing by soprano Christine Schäfer and baritone Christian Gerhaher, together with Chor des Bayerischen Rundfunks.
A treasure to own, this Blu-ray with Brahms‘ longest and probably most touching composition!’’ Amazon.co.uk reviewer
