Burns Night

Sunday, 31 January 2016
Who is this character, Robert Burns, you may ask. Well lads and lasses the most famous of Scottish bards carries on his shoulders - almost single handily - the hopes and dreams of all Scots when it comes to their steadfast assertion that they to speak English. sort of.

In honesty being married to a Scotswoman myself I often wonder how we got through the first 3 months of association, I guarantee it was not due to verbal communication as I dunna ken a friggin word that was being said, thank heavens for other diversions of interest.

Our 4th annual celebration of Rabbie Burns is upon us again. As with previous years the format will be loosely based on the more traditional celebrations which are held globally but no more so than in fairest Scotland.

So be prepared to enjoy traditional Haggis - freshly caught and fed a balanced diet of moonbeams and stardust - Neeps and Tatis, Tipsy Laird, Whiskeys, Live Music, Burns Poetry, good cheer and of course our live Piper who is part of the Scottish Regiment located in Cape Town.

Chances are good some spontaneous highland dancing will erupt and no doubt at least one kilt will be forced to flick itself to prove the authenticity of the wearer - be warned those with sensitive sensibilities -.

So diarise the date now! 31st January 2016, Merryweathers Guest House, Bath Street, Montagu. We will be limiting numbers to an intimate 50 people. Do not miss out! More information to follow in the course of January. Contact the Burgundy Gherkin on 023 614 3734 or email Rhoda if you want to pre-order your tickets.

"Suspense is worse than disappointment" - Robert Burns.
