Every year, on May 18th, museums around the globe celebrate International Museum Day.
Established in 1977 by the International Council of Museums (ICOM), the aim is to raise awareness about the vital role museums play in cultural exchange, enriching cultures, and fostering mutual understanding and cooperation.
This year's theme - "The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities" - focuses on how museums can navigate and contribute to a world undergoing profound social, technological, and environmental shifts.
By attaching our photo to the official poster, we are joining the party, acknowledging our local mandate in preserving our shared traditions and heritage stories, and finding ways to breathe new life into our community with innovative and sustainable projects.
FOR YOU: Take yourselves down to Joubert House in Long Street on Sunday. (We are open from 09h00- 12h00 and
entrance is free on #InternationalMuseumDay)
FOR US: International Museum Day β25 rolls over into 2 community initiatives:
1.β β A targeted 3-day Educational Programme (19-21 May) for community primary schools
2.β β A High School Speech Competition on the 22 May with speeches inspired by this yearβs ICOM theme.
