Montagu Saturday Market

Montagu Saturday Market
Euvrard Park in Bath Street (directly across from the Tourism Bureau) is a sleepy little hollow during the week with very little activity apart from the occasional visitor and flocks of birds. Come Saturday, it is transformed in a bustling hive of activity!

Once an event it is now fast becoming an institution, with visitors coming from far and wide, to sample and buy the vast variety of goods on sale. Local cheeses not only compare with their more expensive foreign counterparts, but those in the know swear that they are far superior. Organic goods like eggs, butter, olive oil and vegetables (to name but a few) are a welcome change to the commercial fare normally available at the supermarkets.

Handcrafted batik clothing, hand-painted table cloths, jewellery, unique funky zip bags, wire beading and crafts make good gifts that can easily be packed into a person’s luggage.

Buy everything you need for a picnic basket or a lazy alfresco meal. Freshly baked bread of all kinds, pates and wholesome quiches, home made chutney and chilli sauces, the best biltong to be found and you have everything you need. For the sweet-tooth, choose from endless options whether it be something traditional like the South African koeksuster or the more contemporary paneforte. The only difficulty when deciding on your menu will be making up your mind on what to buy.

Not only is this a one-stop venue for all you need and more – the friendly stall-holders will have you coming back time and time again.

Market Hours are:

Summer: 8:00am - 12:20pm
Winter: 8:30am - 12:30pm
