Just 6 kilometres out of Montagu, on the road to Barrydale, awaits a day of activities and exploration. Open 7 days a week, from 8am to 5pm, the Montagu Guano Cave is now open to the public and offers a very impressive list of family orientated activities.
On arrival you can choose from a variety of things to do including horse/pony riding, fishing, paintball hunting, hiking or swimming in the various heated/cold rock pools. The petting farm allows children of all ages to interact with the animals. Come and meet "KaKushKa", the Lama, and all her friends.
A 35 minute tractor trip will get you to the mouth of the cave, where your guided tour of the cave begins. Very few people know that the cave is roughly 500m deep and has several chambers that branch off from the main cave. It is not known how far these narrower chambers, which grant access to the bats alone, penetrate into the mountain.
With so much to do, stay over for a few days. There are four very reasonably priced types of accommodation available. I could go on about what they have on offer, but why not visit their website
www.montaguguanocave.co.za and see for yourself.
