Lions Metropolitan Handicap | [back] |
by Eric Zilverentant 27/04/2010 The first ever Montagu Metropolitan Handicap was proudly presented by the Montagu Lions Club.
The venue was the Gold Ring at the Bella Monta Turf Club on Saturday 24 April 2010.
Punters dressed up for the occasion and the feature race was number 5 on a card of 6.
Under the starting orders of Barry Preston, the well-bred Lion Lady fillies performed very well, allthough one race was won by a handsome Lion stallion, where the bookies lost a lot of money.
The prize for the best dressed couple was won by Mr and Mrs Starkenburg of Bath Street and the best dressed lady, Mrs Tanja Crafford. The local Mafia also attended this occasion, dressed in black and wearing hats while attempting to rig the races .
A lot of fun was had by all and this novel fundraiser will definitely be repeated later this year.
Please turn to your favorite newspaper for the results of all the races or phone Lion Bill Hewitt, @ 082 806 8809, who organised this project and who is also the incoming secretary of the Lions (Turf) Club.
