The motorists in the almost bumper to bumper stream of cars, most of them on route to the KKK (Klein Karoo Kunstefees), were not sure what to make of the unusual roadblock that they encountered as they entered Montagu from the Ashton entrance into Long Street on Friday, 1st April.

Most of the drivers immediately reached out in trepidation to get their licences and vehicle's documentation out of glove compartments when they were pulled off the road. Their expressions of concern quickly disappeared to be replaced by surprised looks as they were greeted and warmly welcomed to Montagu by volunteers from the Montagu-Ashton Tourism Association as well as the Breede River Winelands Rotary Club who assisted on the day.

Frowns were replaced by big grins as they were assured that it was just a Friendly Roadblock, with the main aim to promote and create Road Safety awareness. Even bigger was the surprise when each vehicle was presented with a generous gift containing a variety of items: a Road Safety Awareness pamphlet, various pamphlets from tourism establishments in town, coffee shop vouchers, a pen, sweets as well as dried fruit.

The CPF can be proud of this event (the 2nd one that they have organised) as it was certainly well received and made a huge impression on the visitors passing through - especially judging from the feedback received from the stall holders at the Village Market who reported that on Saturday morning, many of the visitors who stayed over in town for the weekend and who were stopped at the roadblock, were incredibly impressed and think Montagu is the place to be!
