Montagu concert goers will have the chance to hear opera star Zanne Stapelberg in concert with the celebrated pianist Kathleen Tagg.
Zanne Stapelberg needs no introduction as a great South African diva, whose versatility has earned her widespread acclaim from the press and public alike, as well as the coveted 2008 Standard Bank Young Artist Award. Shegraduated Cum Laude from the Conservatoire of the University of Stellenbosch.
She has graced the stage in varied roles such as Angelica in Suor Angelica; Nella in Gianni Schicchi; Mimi in La Bohème; Ilia in Mozart's Idomeneo; Pamina in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte; Marguerite in Gounod's Faust; the title role in Handel's Alcina and Rosalinda in Strauss' popular operetta, Die Fledermaus. She starred in the classic Stravinsky opera-ballet Pulcinella and other performances include Handel's Messiah, Vivaldi's Gloria, Haydn’s Die Schöpfung, Mozart’s Dixit Dominus, Brahms' Ein Deutsches Requiem, Dvorak’s Requiem, Carla in William Kentridge's European tour of his performance art piece, Confessions of Zeno.
Since moving to New York from Cape Town in 2001, pianist Kathleen Tagg was hailed by the New York press following her New York solo piano debut at Carnegie Weill Hall. Kathleen began piano studies at age five, followed by her first live broadcast on SABC radio at the age of seven. She has performed solo and chamber music all over South Africa as well as in Europe, India and Zimbabwe.
Kathleen’s education includes degrees from the University of Cape Town, Mannes College of Music New York and a doctorate from the Manhattan School of Music, where she garnered the Helen Cohn award as the outstanding doctoral graduate to add to several other awards from earlier in her career.
This past season included performances of Orchestrated Songs of Heartbreak, written by her and Sophie Jaff’s at Lincoln Center, a tour to India and New York with the Sabina Rakcheyeva Ensemble, as well as the recording of the group's debut album in London, and multiple solo and chamber music concerts in South Africa.
