An evening of glamour and style, sophisticated food and the best of local wineries is in store for local women. Montagu’s social event of the year aims to give credit to women who play important roles in the community. The event is an initiative of the beautiful little town’s Community Police Forum (CPF). The community is participating through a nomination process to establish the finalists in a project that could become a yearly event.
Women can be nominated in seven categories. The categories are:
* Farm Woman of the Year
* Go-getter in the Hospitality Industry
* Friendliest Cashier
* Best-Dressed Woman
* Grandma of the Year
* In Service of the Community, and
* Montagu Woman of the Year.
Nomination forms have clear guidelines as to the criteria of each category, while post-boxes have been made available at key points in town, such as Montagu Pharmacy, The Orchard Farm Stall, Kloof Nursery, Benita’s Hair Salon, Ashbury Superette, and Montagu Spar.
Nominations close at the end of July.
The community is urged to make sure that women making a difference in their communities are nominated. A panel of adjudicators will go through the nominations – only one nomination is necessary to become eligible for the awards. The finalists in every category will be invited to rub shoulders during the glamorous evening on 25 August at Cabriéres, a stunning estate just outside Montagu.
Tickets for the event can be bought from the organisers. A fund raiser was also held to be able to sponsor nominees that might not be able to afford tickets for the event. Local and other businesses were invited to get involved through sponsorships, marketing strategies or their presence at the event. Montagu’s social highlight of the year is drawing closer, so unpack those shiny dresses and dust off the tuxedos!
