Bicycle Exhibition @ Eroica
11 Mar 2017 - 23 Mar 2017There will be an exhibition of vintage and classic bicycles in the Art Gallery at the MMACC, in the KWV Building, from the 11th to the 23rd of March. On display will be a Dursley Pedersen bicycle (1893), tandems, folding bicycles and more modern 21st century bicycles including a ”Gocycle” electric and a three wheeled recumbent with lithium batteries.
The Dursley Pedersen bicycle was built in 1893 by Mikael Pedersen who was a Dane living in Dursley England. He developed a hammock- type saddle as riding on cobblestones with no suspension was not fine, and his frame was known as a cantilevered frame - the design being influenced by the cantilever "Forth Rail Bridge".
Variations include lightweight racing, tandem and folding designs. Other innovations by Pedersen include two and three speed internally geared rear hubs.
